Centrex Technologies has completed a major new RFID project for Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. This project includes RFID tagging of 400,000 linen and uniform items with advanced management and tracking through the Linenweb® Pro system.
Centrex engineers designed an advanced linen and uniform tracking system, bringing together technology sourced from world leading vendors and all integrated using Centrex Technologies’ proprietary Linenweb® cloud-based software and database systems. World leading RFID vendors include RFID tags from Fujitsu in Japan, RFID readers from Impinj in USA (Centrex is a global Impinj partner), mobile RFID computers from M3 in Korea and RFID Portals from Australia (custom designed by Centrex Australia).
The technology deployed at CCAD by Centrex engineering was quite advanced, with several of the components highly innovative. The extensive use of directional RFID portals for example, whereby the Linenweb® Pro system enacts different functionality, each with a wide range of automated data entry features depending upon which direction the linen passes through was very innovative and is exclusive functionality of the Centrex system. The automated assignment and staff management of the uniform system was also very innovative, as was some of the advanced mobile RFID scanning apps.
These innovations were developed with the objective of making the operation of the linen and uniform distribution as simple as possible for CCAD staff while maintaining high accuracy, automating the data capture as much as possible at each step while having the RFID and Centrex software handle all the complexity in the background.
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is the result of a partnership agreement between Mubadala Development Company (owned by Emirate of Abu Dhabi) and Cleveland Clinic based in USA. The Clinic opened May 2015. This 364 (expandable to 490) bed facility will be an extension of the Cleveland Clinic model of care, offering a range of tertiary/ quaternary medical services. Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is one of the largest medical centers in the Middle East.
